RNS Quote of the Day, 08/23/11

Mark Field says:

We Californians are amused at your consternation. But we hope everyone’s ok.

[from a Volokh Conspiracy East Coast earthquake thread. He’s right, 5.9 is really not a big deal.

I greatly prefer earthquakes to tornadoes and hurricanes. Earthquakes are easy to protect against and survive.]

  1. One thing to remember though Dave, while 5.9 is a joke to us here on the West coast, our buildings for the most part have been built with earth quakes in mind. Not so much on the east coast. Just a thought.

I rode out the Nisqually Quake which was considerably larger so yeah they don’t get much sympathy from me. I will however remember that they don’t normally get them and they might not build with the precautions in mind. Still, no sympathy cause as you said they are easy to protect against. They just might not feel it a good ROI due to the infrequent nature.

  2. Phil says:

5.9? I sneeze harder than that.

    And sometimes after “Taco Nite”……
