I’ve been watching the left’s reaction to the latest wave of John Galt’s being featured in the blogosphere and in the MSM and I can only say that they must live in a complete bubble.
The reactions range from calling the Galt’s stupid to calling them traitors.
Take this attorney from Louisiana
A 63-year-old attorney based in Lafayette, La., who asked not to be named, told ABCNews.com that she plans to cut back on her business to get her annual income under the quarter million mark should the Obama tax plan be passed by Congress and become law.
“We are going to try to figure out how to make our income $249,999.00,” she said.
“We have to find a way out where we can make just what we need to just under the line so we can benefit from Obama’s tax plan,” she added. “Why kill yourself working if you’re going to give it all away to people who aren’t working as hard?”
To the commentariat at Washington Monthly’s Political Animal, she’s an idiot who doesn’t understand the tax structure.
But to citizens like you and I, we know her objections are based on a lack of desire to be ripped off. Why should she continue to make, say $300K, if the last $50K of that is going to be treated like sushi by the Obama IRS? It’ll be along the lines of $2200 in new taxes on top of the already $17000 in tax on just the dollar amount over $250K.
It is worse than working overtime to pay the tax.
The new Galt’s are saying that they’re willing to pay their share of tax, but that raising taxes on them to bailout a corporation or to pay someone to dig a hole and someone else to fill it in is class warfare plain and simple, and that they won’t take part in it.
But the thought that some fiscal conservative might go through with a little passive-aggressive civil disobedience goes right over the heads of the leftosphere, who either actively encouraged or stayed whisper silent when their fellow travellers refused to pay any taxes at all because of something on the list of shit they dreamt up about the previous administration.
Not that we make $250+, but I can already tell you that our household will be making less this year than we did last year. With my boss’ vice-like grip cutting off as much OT as inhumanly possible in 2009 and The Wife having maxed out on her employer’s pay scale last year, unless there is a natural disaster I’ll have to help clean up after, Commandant Teleprompter had better not be counting on getting the same amount of money out of me in 2009 as he did in 2008.
