					<description>Like Capt Attila said: isn't the government supposed to work for the people?  Why isn't something that curtails basic freedoms put to a referendum or plebescite, or a ballot initiative?

The mayor is not a god.  Can you somehow force him to consult the citizenry?</description>

					<description>The thing that absolutely amazes me about this whole thing is how all of the &quot;power to the people&quot; and &quot;speak truth to power&quot; types seem to love living in the mayor's little undemocratic fiefdom. Preemption issues aside, I've read the City Charter, and it sure looks like it vests the legislative power in the council. This is an executive power grab of the highest order and nobody seems to give a rip but those of us on the right that actually believe in the rule of law.</description>
